Charitable Giving and Who We Support

Charitable giving is an important goal of the Sarasota Shell Club and we are grateful for donations. Please donate or leave a legacy!

Donations from our annual shell show profits have supported various marine research and educational institutions, such as New College of Florida, the Carefree Learner, The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, the Delaware Museum of Natural History, and South Florida Museum, among others. We also give grants to high school and junior high school marine biology teachers for judged marine biology displays at our annual shell show and donate shell artworks created by the club’s award-winning Artisans for various charity auctions.

To further support educating a new generation of marine scientists, the Sarasota Shell Club also endows the The Bopp/Timmermann Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund honors the memory of longtime, active club members Mary Jo Bopp and David William Timmermann by promoting student interest in Marine Science with an emphasis on the study of mollusks. Donations can made to the Sarasota Shell Club in memory of Mary Jo Bopp and David William Timmermann. Scholarships are available to a qualified Marine Science student studying in a local or regional program. If no applications are received for a particular year, the scholarship fund continues to grow.

Here’s how you can help us continue our outreach programs in the area:

  • Remember us in your will with a gift.
  • Make a donation in someone’s name.
  • Sponsor one of our annual shell show awards.
  • Donate your shells to the club.
  • Support the Bopp/Timmermann Scholarship Fund.
